Leichliter drives in 6 for Lady Falcons in 23-8 victory

Cali Leichliter had six RBIs on two doubles and an inside-the-park home run to lead Connellsville to a 23-8 victory over Greensburg Salem in non-section softball action on Thursday at Connellsville Area High School’s softball field.

The Lady Falcons (0-1, 4-1) jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first inning before adding three in the second frame for a 14-0 advantage.

The Lady Golden Lions (1-0, 1-1) came back with four runs apiece in the third and top of the fourth frames before Connellsville closed out the game with a nine-run bottom of the fourth.

Leichliter was called out on interference, as she led off for the home team, but as the Lady Falcons batted around, Leichliter cashed in on her second at-bat of the frame when she hit a double to right field that scored Maggie Orndorff for a 7-0 lead. Connellsville sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning. The Lady Falcons had 10 hits in the frame, was hit-by-pitch and reached base on an error.

Leichliter scored on Addison Smith’s double to left, and Smith trotted home on Kalyn Cole’s blast to centerfield for a 10-0 advantage. Molly Greenwalt singled to center and scored on Kaylee Roadman’s double for an 11-0 lead. Roadman had two doubles. Cole and Smith each had two hits.

Greenwalt hit a three-run homer to left field in the fourth frame. She added a single for multiple hits.

Rylee Dreves and Halle Parfitt each had an RBI single in the same inning before Leichliter’s three-run double to center scored three to put the 15-run rule into effect. Dreves drove in three runs on three hits, and Partiff had three RBIs and two singles.

Leichliter’s homer came in the second inning to put the home team up by 14. Orndorff, who had walked, scored on the hit. Parfitt had walked and scored on a wild pitch.

Mackenzie Victor earned the pitching victory after yielding four earned runs on six hits over three innings. She had six strikeouts and walked two.

Hannah Olbeter and Cate Waugaman doubled for Greensburg Salem. Both had two hits and drove in five runs combined, as Waugaman had three RBIs and Olbeter two. Teammate Alle Scarpa had two singles.

FRAZIER 15, MONESSEN 0 — The Lady Commodores scored 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a non-section victory over the Lady Greyhounds at Perryopolis Softball Field.

Addison Hiles and Zoey Zurenski combined for no-hits in the three-inning triumph. Hiles had five strikeouts and walked one, while Zurenski had a strikeout and walk in â…” of an inning. Hiles went 2 â…“ innings.

Hiles had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Grace Polkabla tripled and drove in two runs. AK Lion doubled and had three RBIs.

Frazier (2-2) had more walks than hits, 8-7, but made the most of its opportunities.

BELLE VERNON 12, SOUTHMORELAND 6 — The Lady Scotties opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Leopards countered with five in their half of the frame, and then added another five en route to a non-section victory at Belle Vernon.

Southmoreland (0-0, 1-3) scored two runs in the third to cut the deficit to 10-4. The Lady Leopards (0-2, 2-3) extended their lead to 11-4 in the fourth before the visitors got another run back. The home team added its final run in the fifth. The Lady Scotties scored one run in the seventh.

Bella Williams led Belle Vernon’s offensive attack with three hits, including two doubles. Teammates Ava Jones and Addy Newman had two doubles apiece.

The Lady Leopards’ Mailey Hayes and Kaylee Sypolt each chipped in with two singles.

Maddie Grisnik earned the pitching victory and Leighton Schwab the save.

Isabella Grabiak and Megan Potoka combined for four hits with both recording two singles.

EASTLAKE NORTH, OHIO 6, WEST GREENE 3 — The Lady Rangers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on for a victory over the Lady Pioneers at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Eastlake (3-3) scored in the second inning on a sacrifice and the third on a squeeze play before West Greene (1-1) tied the game in the fourth frame on a double by Emmaline Beazell and Katie Brudnock’s infield groundout. Beazell provided the Lady Pioneers with a 3-2 lead in the fifth on a run-scoring single.

Kylee Davis had two base hits for West Greene.

The Lady Pioneers committed two errors in the sixth that helped the Lady Rangers score four runs.

Violet Dichazy allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings to earn the complete-game victory. She struck out seven and walked two.

Sammi Zimmerman had four strikeouts and one walk in 5 â…“ innings for West Greene. Caitlyn Whyte threw the final â…” of an inning without a run or hit. She didn’t record a strikeout and walked one.

Eastlake’s Liv Cicclico, Maddy Ferrari and Holly Mosnik each had two hits. Ferrari tripled and Mosnik doubled.

BASEBALL

AVELLA 10, WEST GREENE 0 — The Eagles’ Chas Rush pitched a one-hitter over six innings to lead his team to a Section 1-1A triumph over the Pioneers at West Greene.

Rush struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk in earning the win on the mound. Avella didn’t have to bat in the seventh because the game was called due to the 10-run rule.

The Eagles (2-0, 3-0) swept the season series with the Pioneers (0-2, 0-4) after earning a 3-1 victory on Wednesday.

Rush drove in four runs on a two-run single in the first and a two-run home run in the fourth. Teammate Bryce Wright hit a double to left field in the sixth that extended Avella’s lead to 10.

Cam Ullom had three RBIs and a hit for the visitors.

Dylan Hughes singled for West Greene in the second.

MOUNT PLEASANT 9, DERRY 5 — The Vikings used a six-run second inning to take control of their non-section victory over the Trojans at Derry.

Jordan Grieff, who had four RBIs, hit a three-run double to right field in the second for a 6-1 lead. Ian Shipley, Dane Firmstone and Santino Marne scored on Grieff’s hit. Firmstone and Marne had singled, and Shipley walked to set the stage for Grieff.

Marne tripled and scored, and Shipley doubled and scored. Carter Urban doubled and singled on Quinn Painter’s base hit. Urban also scored on an RBI single by Marne.

Painter and Urban each had two hits.

Mount Pleasant improved to 3-4 this season.
