Uniontown flag football finishes year above .500

Uniontown broke through in the second quarter with three touchdowns and held California to one score in a 38-7 victory on Friday in Section II play at Trojan Stadium in Coal Center.

The Red Raiders finished their inaugural season in the WPIAL with a record of 7-6. Uniontown fell just short of a playoff berth, but was sixth in section play. The WPIAL takes the top four from each section to the postseason.

The Trojans fell to 4-7 in section and overall play.

Playing in her final high school game, Uniontown’s Aierra Jenkins caught seven passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. The senior and PennWest California commit for flag football and basketball gained 46 yards on three carries and found her way into the end zone.

Fellow senior Lyric McLee was 18 of 32 for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Jenkins was 9 of 14 for 72 yards.

McLee led the Red Raiders in rushing with 121 yards on six carries and a touchdown. She also ran in a two-point conversion.

Imari Wilson contributed on the ground with seven carries for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Lannie Uluiakeba pulled in four receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown. Aubree Long had 35 yards on four catches. Wilson pulled in two passes for 30 yards, and Kaleeya Tyler had a 28-yard reception.

Jenkins and McLee had two interceptions apiece and 11 combined pass breakups with Jenkins disrupting seven attempts and McLee four. McLee made six tackles while Jenkins had five.

Tyler led the visitors in tackles with 11, including four for a loss. She broke up three passes and pulled in an interception.

Long had eight tackles and three pass breakups. Wilson added seven tackles (three for loss) and two passes defended.

Saveah Rishel contributed with six stops (four for loss) and hurried the quarterback eight times to go along with one sack. Ayeesha Matthison made four tackles and pressured the quarterback five times.

Erelah Boatright added three tackles, including one for a loss, and a quarterback hurry.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Uniontown had an 18-0 advantage in the second period before edging California, 8-7, in the third for a 26-7 advantage. The Red Raiders blanked the Trojans, 12-0, in the final frame.

BASEBALL

UNIONTOWN 7, BROWNSVILLE 6 — Chandler Myers led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off home run in a non-section victory for the Red Raiders on Friday at Bailey Park.

Myers hit the solo blast to left field after Uniontown (9-7) had rallied from a 6-0 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.

Brownsville (3-13) had scored two runs apiece in the first, second and fifth innings.

Myers also doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Teammates Shane Kelly and Elim Martin also doubled, and Kelly had an RBI.

Jamesen Carter, who also earned the victory on the mound, had a single and two RBIs.

Carter, who came on in relief, yielded two runs (one earned) on three hits over five innings. He had seven strikeouts and no walks.

Brayden Hinzy singled and drove in a run for the home team.

Elijah Patterson led the Falcons with three hits, including a double, and one RBI. Teammates Jalen Blair and Jeremiah McDonald each had a double.

McDonald, Dominic Capan and Jonah Dillinger had one RBI apiece. Dillinger had a base hit.

MAPLETOWN 3, MONESSEN 2 — The Maples swept the season series from the Greyhounds following Taylor Moore’s walk-off single in the eighth inning of a non-section game.

Teammate Ashton Walker singled and drove in two runs.

Mason Reeves hit the game-tying base hit in the seventh for Monessen.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 10, BETH-CENTER 2 — John Woodward drove in five runs as the Rockets dominated the Bulldogs in non-section play.

Woodward was 2 for 3 and teammate Evan Kniha went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Jefferson-Morgan’s Deakyn DeHoet, who also competes in track & field for Beth-Center, was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

The Rockets improved to 10-7 overall this season.

Lorenzo Brown and Jax Taylor each drove in a run and singled for the Bulldogs.

TRINITY 11, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 1 — The Hillers’ Jonah Williamson hit a three-run home run, and teammates Aarin Harshman and Karson Hathaway helped lead to a non-section victory over the Raiders.

Harshman added a double, triple and drove in two runs, while Hathaway singled, doubled and had two RBIs.

Luke Poland allowed one hit and had seven strikeouts to earn the pitching victory for Trinity (8-10).

Kory Taylor doubled and drove in one run for Waynesburg (6-11).

SOFTBALL

THOMAS JEFFERSON 9, BELLE VERNON 0 — The Jaguars were too much for the Leopards in non-section play.

Zoie DeCostro was a double shy of the cycle and drove in four runs, while Madden Stanek had a single, home run and three RBIs.

Adalina Bracco doubled and had one RBI for Thomas Jefferson (14-2).

Brooke Hugland and Leighton Schwab each singled for Belle Vernon (8-11).

The Jaguars’ Aubrey Schaffer recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed two hits in seven innings for the win.
