Local roundup: Lady Trojans, Lady Leopards earn section wins

Hayley Gibson scored a game-high 21 points and California gradually pulled away from host Carmichaels for a 53-36 Section 4-AA victory in girls basketball action on Monday night.

Rakiyah Porter added 13 points for the Lady Trojans (1-1, 3-4) who led 9-6, 23-15 and 39-23 at the quarter breaks.

Megan Voithofer paced the Lady Mikes (0-1, 1-5) with 15 points and Ali Jacobs followed with 13.

Belle Vernon 42, Ringgold 35 – Kenzi Seliga totaled 15 points, five assists and five steals to help the Lady Leopards hold off the host Lady Rams in a Section 3-AAAA battle.

Belle Vernon (1-1, 4-3) led 19-11 after the first quarter but Ringgold (0-2, 1-5) sliced the gap to 26-20 at halftime and 31-30 at the end of three quarters.

The Lady Leopards used an 11-5 advantage in the final frame to secure the victory.

Saylor Lee contributed 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Leopards.

Kamryn Webb led the Lady Rams with 11 points.

Frazier 57, Bentworth 54 – Allie Yauch and Chloe Harger tossed in 17 points apiece as the host Lady Commodores won a tight non-section battle with the Lady Bearcats.

Frazier (4-4) led 15-12 after the first quarter, Bentworth went up 25-24 at halftime but the Lady Commodores retook the lead 40-38 after three quarters and held on from there.

Amber Sallee had a game-high 23 points with five assists for the Lady Bearcats (1-6), who also got 11 points from Kayla O’Dell and 10 rebounds from Jesse Laskey.

Charleroi 59, Jefferson-Morgan 30 – Riley Jones tossed in a game-high 23 points as the Lady Cougars took down the Lady Rockets in a non-section game..

Bella Carroto and Ella Sypolt each added 10 points for Charleroi (4-1).

Ava Wood and Addyson Teagarder both scored six points for Jefferson-Morgan (2-5).

Penn-Trafford 49, Albert Gallatin 24 – Olivia Pepple scored 23 points as the Lady Warriors knocked off the visiting Lady Colonials in a Section 3-AAAAA game.

Lauren Marton added 10 points for Penn-Trafford (2-0, 6-1), which broke a 10-10 tie by out-scoring AG (0-2, 1-5) 14-2 in the second quarter and pulled away from there.

Mya Glisan had 11 points for Albert Gallatin.

Chartiers-Houston 46, Beth-Center 41 – The Lady Bucs rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Lady Bulldogs in a Section 4-AA clash.

Chartiers-Houston (2-0, 4-2) moved out to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter but Beth-Center (1-1, 3-4) got within 18-17 by halftime then surged to a 34-30 advantage after three quarters.

The Lady Bucs regrouped and rolled to a 16-7 edge in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Ava Capozzoli led all scorers with 21 points for C-H.

Emma Shashura and Violet Trump each tallied 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Washington 52, Brownsville 49 – The Lady Prexies came back in the fourth quarter to beat the visiting Lady Falcons in a non-section game.

Brownsville (6-2) held a 34-31 lead after three quarters but Washington (2-3) fought back with a 21-15 edge in the fourth.

Skyler Gates had a double-double for the Lady Falcons with 16 points and 15 rebounds and also blocked eight shots. Ava Clark was Brownsville’s top scorer with 17 points and added five assists, and Zhariah Reed chipped in with 11 points and four assists.

Boys basketball

Chartiers-Houston 80, Beth-Center 64 – Avery Molek rang up 30 points and the Buccaneers pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting Bulldogs in a Section 4-AA game.

Justus Buckingham had 18 points and Nate Gregory added 12 points for Chartiers-Houston (1-1, 5-1) which led 38-34 at halftime before out-scoring B-C 42-30 in the second half.

Beth-Center (0-1, 1-5) put four players in double figures. Jason Zellie led the way with 16 points and was followed by Brody Tharp (14), Santino Revi (14) and Jonah Sussan (12).

West Greene 78, Hundred 37 – Lane Allison poured in a game-high 30 points as the Pioneers romped over Hundred, W.Va., in a non-section meeting.

Matt Wassil followed with 17 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds in recording a double-double for West Greene (3-2). Parker Burns also was strong on the boards with 12 rebounds.

Colton Sandy scored 18 points for the Hornets (0-3) who also got 11 points from Trey Huggins.

Springdale 82, California 45 – Jackson Pribanic scored 24 point and John Hughes contributed 13 points as the Dynamos cruised past the host Trojans in a non-section game.

Chase Weihrauch scored 10 points for Springdale (5-1).

Darius Johnson topped California (0-5) with eight points.
