Pennsylvania’s Betting Numbers Continue to Impress
The decision to pass a bill to legalize gambling in Pennsylvania in 2017 has proven to be a good one. 2023 saw record gambling revenues and the latest figures appear to show this is a trend that is set to continue.
All states in the U.S. have the autonomy to pass bills and allow different betting markets to take place. While many have chosen to do this and divert some of the revenue they receive into community projects, there are still many states holding out.
While many of the reasons for not legalizing different betting markets are social, these rules aren’t stopping consumers from placing bets.

Sports betting in Pennsylvania recorded a record handle of $7.68 billion, with revenue of $458.6 million, a 14.3% increase on 2022s figures. Fast forward 20 2024 and despite still having excellent offshore options at their disposal, Pennsylvania’s showed a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, coming in at $646.1 million.
Of course, monthly figures will fluctuate based on sporting events and active seasons, but exploring the corresponding figures from the previous year gives a good indication that Pennsylvania is on course for another record-breaker.
Pennsylvania’s success could be used as a test case by campaigners in other U.S. states that want to show the potential that a regulated online betting industry can bring.
The state of Pennsylvania will receive an additional $14.4 million in tax revenue from their betting industry for the month of April alone, and that doesn’t count the amount spent at , despite being a traditionally lower time of the year for betting revenues.
