Top-seeded Mohawk defeats Waynesburg, 74-49

Joey Nail and Bobby Fadden combined for 46 points as top-seeded Mohawk defeated visiting Waynesburg Central, 74-49, in a WPIAL Class 3A boys basketball playoff game Tuesday night.

Nail finished with a game-high 25 points and Fadden had 21 for the Warriors (21-1).

The Raiders trailed just 18-16 after the opening quarter but Mohawk gradually pulled away from there.

The Warriors led 35-27 at halftime and 52-40 after three quarters.

Drew Wrona added 14 points for Mohawk.

Cole Headlee paced No. 16 Waynesburg with 19 points. He was followed by Jackson Dean with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Dane Woods, who recently joined the 1,000-point club, contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Girls basketball

Aliquippa 43, Beth-Center 34 — The 11th-seeded Lady Bulldogs threw a scare into No. 6 Aliquippa but the host Lady Quips rallied from an early eight-point deficit to earn a Class 2A playoff victory.

Denim Odom led Aliquippa with 14 points and Dai’onna Washington had 12.

Beth-Center raced out to a 17-9 advantage in the first quarter but Aliquippa surged to a 26-23 halftime lead. The Lady Quips (15-7) built their lead to 38-26 after three quarters. The Lady Bulldogs held an 8-5 edge in the fourth.

Violet Trump, a 1,000-point scorer for Beth-Center, led the Lady Bulldogs (10-12) with 10 points.
