A sting operation in Fayette County led to the arrest Saturday morning of a man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. State troopers began investigating Monday after receiving a report that Samuel Newman, 53, of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., had committed sexual crimes against the child, according to a release Saturday from District Attorney Mike Aubele. Evidence from Facebook, text messages, letters and videos depicting child sex abuse corroborated the child's claim, Aubele said. A Fayette County man was killed in a single-vehicle accident when his pickup truck crashed Sunday morning in North Union Township. Joseph Franks, 52, of Lemont Furnace, was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash on Mt. Braddock Road, according to a release from Fayette County Coroner Dr. Bob Baker.
